DE Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya (ed.). T.F. Editores / Guggenheim Bilbao, 2013. Texto en inglés. Arte. Escultura. The exhibition From Object to Sculpture (1964-2009), which will be on display at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao from October 4 to January 19, 2014, offers the largest retrospective of the artist's sculptures and objects to date. Starting from assemblage, a technique that consists of incorporating manufactured objects into the structure of the work, Tàpies developed a growing interest - which he would maintain throughout his life - in formal and conceptual aspects applied to sculpture and objects, a line of research that allowed him to explore artistic and personal concerns. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog in which three interesting essays signed by Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya - curator of the exhibition -, Tony Godfrey and Anatxu Zabalbescoa, and four texts contributed by the sculptors Miroslaw Balka, Cristina Iglesias, Marjetica Potrc and Jessica Stockholder on the figure of Tàpies. It also includes a clarifying glossary, prepared by María José Balcells, and a detailed chronology that helps the reader understand many of the keys that underlie the artist's sculptural and object production.
