The work chronicles the history of the world from the origin of the Earth to the First World War, it was originally published in 24 fortnightly instalments beginning on 2 November 1919. The first one volume edition being published in 1920. Wells kept revising new edition during his lifetime the last revision in his life being published in 1937.
